Sunflower Scholarship Fund

The Sunflower Scholarship Fund was established to reflect the attributes which Chelsea King embodied as a young citizen and student at Poway High School. She was extremely diligent, involved in a variety of school activities, had a passion for volunteering in her community, believed in the power of change and dreamed of making the world a better place.

The annual Finish Chelsea’s Run is the primary fundraiser for Chelsea’s Light Foundation’s Sunflower Scholarship Fund, providing scholarships for San Diego County college-bound teens who have embraced Chelsea’s service-over-self ethic. Thanks to the overwhelming success of the 2011 event and the support we received from the San Diego community, Chelsea’s Light Foundation was able to award 10 Sunflower Scholarships to college-bound youth.

Applications for the 2012 Academic scholarships are now available through high school counseling offices, at our booth at Finish Chelsea’s Run, and by clicking here to download the application in pdf format. Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2012 in order to be considered. 

In addition to Academic scholarships, the Sunflower Scholarship Fund awards Joie de Vivre or “joy of life” scholarships.  These are designed to enable children with financial need to experience the joy of extracurricular activities that they otherwise couldn’t afford.
